Phrathat Doi Kwang Kum Temple

Phrathat Doi Kwang Kum Temple is located in Ban Pongdang, Moo. 5 in the district of ToongHua Chang, Lamphun province. This temple is one of the most important temples in the district of Toong Hua Chang; a sub-branch to Wat Phra Phuttabat Ban Huaytom in the district of Li.The temple was built in 1957 by KrubahWongsa Chai-pattana, vice abbot of WatPhraPuttabat Baan Huaytom. The reason behind the construction of this temple is that, Krubah Wongsa Chai-pattana once walked up to DoiKwangKum and found a mysterious print on a stone. KrubahWongsa Chai-pattana then meditated and had found out that, during his past life he was Leader of Kwang Kum which led groups of animals to habitat in the area. In his past life, KrubahWongsa Chai-pattana was killed with an arrow while listening to dhamma. For this reason, he lead tribal people within the area to build a road leading up to Doi Kwang Kum and advised for a sacred construction be built, so that villagers could have a place in performing religious ceremonies.Within the temple property, there are various interesting grounds; the Doi Kwang Kum Stupa; believed to be the location where the KwangKum leader’s horn was buried, secondly, there’s Phra Prataan Songkruang which is a Buddha image decorated with sparkling diamonds and colourful gems. Thirdly, there is the imitation of Lord Buddha’s print, which is, in fact, one of the temple’s highlights. Originally, this print is set out to display on its own, but during the years a wiharn (sacred construction) was built, protecting the sanctified object. Moreover, there is also the display of fossils of the KwangKum, which through thousands of years, has transformed to stone.Directions: Following Mae-Aow intersection, take highway No.1184 for around 70 kilometers, you will be arriving at the District of Toong Hua Chang.
