Thai Bank museumThai Bank Museum is located at the Siam Commercial Bank Public Company Limited, Lampang branch, on Chatchai road in Mueang District of Lampang Province. It is the first bank in Lampang and also a place where historical data about finance and banking in Thailand has been collected since ancient time.The museum building was formerly the Siam Commercial Bank, Lampang branch. After that, owing to its spectacular and outstanding architecture, the Association of Siamese Architects under Royal Patronage selected this building to be the best conserved building in 1997. The Siam Commercial Bank, then, started to renovate the building and adapted it into Thai Bank Museum as a memorial for distributing the knowledge about Thailand’s finance and for giving the information about the history of Thai bank. In the lower floor of the exhibition hall, the stories of money are told through the old stuffs used in the bank during the starting period of the establishment. They are bank accounts, bank counters, and account printers. There is also an imitation of the banking room for the visitors to see. Besides, the upper floor is M.R. Kukrit Pramoj’s room when he was the bank manager of this branch.As soon as the visitors enter the museum building, they will find the two-floor building which is made of brick and is mortared. The outside of the building is painted in the color of ivory, alternated with the bright off-white color. The building is built in Colonial architectural style, which can be found in many places in Lampang. The dominant feature of this building is the balcony protruding to the front of the building, which goes with the column and the spectacular arch. The upper floor is designed to divide the space into many small rooms, making them recreation rooms. The entire wall is made of pieces of woods for ventilation. Besides, there is also a balcony surrounding the upper floor.Thai Bank Museum is open for those who are interested in visiting in the bank’s working day from Monday to Friday from 8.30 a.m. to 4.30 p.m. The visitors are required to come in group.
