Wat TumkaopluWat Tumkaoplu has long history. It was built in B.E.2325. In the cave, there is a Buddha image in the attitude of subduing Mara. It is 80-cm. width,1.20-metre tall. It is assumed that this Buddha image is not below than 225 years old. This cave has distance around 300 metres. In the past, there was a monk whom people in Patew District and Chumphon adore. He was called “Luangpu Jeet”. He went to a lot of places such as Nakon Si Thummarat, Phuket, Krabi, Chumphon and Ranong. When he was in Chumphon, he found Kaoplu cave. Owing to water in the cave, nearby villages, comfort in asking for alms, not to many people around, this cave is a perfect place for him to meditate. Therefore, he meditated here since B.E.2466.This Buddhist temple is very well-known for its sacred well. The water in this well comes from a stone in the cave. People brought water from this well to many important ceremonies. Not only well, Wat Tumkaoplu is also famous in Dusky leaf monkey. Tourists can enjoy seeing this animal closely in the evening especially from 3 pm. to 6 pm. since Dusky leaf monkey will come to the temple to find food during this period of time.Fine arts department has already registered Wat Tumkaoplu as archaeological site. It received Wisugcamsima in B.E.2496.If you want to come here, use the road number 3180 from Chumphon. When you see Tasae Y-intersection, go straight to the road number 3201 which go to Patew District. Then, from the district office, use the road number 3253 for about 3 km. and you will see your destination on the left.
