Mae Nang Montho Cave

Mae Nang Montho Cave or Montho Cave is one of the most interesting natural attractions of Natum sub-district, Yala province. Montho cave is located at Natham sub-district Yala province. It is 6 kilometers far from the city on Yala-Yaha road, or it is 1 kilometer before Tham Khuha Phimuk temple. Visitors and tourists can contact local guides on hill side and have to walk uphill through groves and marble deposit for approximately 15 minutes. Geographically, this place consists of mounds and rocky hills and mountains. Most rocks found here are lava rocks and large pebble rocks. The forest here is a lush jungle type, with biological diversity. The cave is a source of creeks and rivers like the Pattani River, for example. This place has 2 seasons for most of the year which are summer and rainy season. Rainy season is between June and December and for summer it is between January and May. Inside of the cave is a network of caves connecting together. In some part visitors need to carry flashlight, due to its dark atmosphere. The most remarkable feature of this cave is in the far end of the cave which has a large hanging rock decorating it. The shape of this rock is like a meditating woman which gives this cave its name (Montho is a fictional character in Ramayana. It is said that she is one of the most beautiful woman in the land). Visitors must be cautious when visiting this place because they have to trek through thick forest to get to the Montho Cave. It is why visitors need an expert guide for their own safety.
