Phraphutthasaiyat Wat Khuha Pimuk

Known as “Wat Na Tham”, located on 136, Mu 1, Ban Na Tham sub-district, AmphoeMueang district, Yala province. The temple is an important Buddhist temple in Yala province. In the temple ground is Srivijaya museum where many precious ancient items from WatTham are kept. The name of the temple was changed to WatKhuhaPimuk during the government of Field Marshal PlaekPhibunsongkhram. There is a big cave where the gigantic inclining Buddha image is enshrined. Moreover, in the cave there are stalagmites and stalactites and clear water running out from the rocks.Back to the past, the King Rama V ordered Phraya Yaring to establish the Yala town and the city hall at Ban Tha Sap in Tha Sap sub-district. The temple was built next to the mountain in front of the cave with the 81ft. high inclining Buddha image inside. The inclining Buddha image, made from clay with bamboo structure, was built in Srivijaya era around B.E. 1300 in the same period of PhraBorommathatMueangNakhon.Near the temple is a pink marble hill which the government allows the private sectors to use it for commercial purpose. The marble from this hill is very famous nationwide due to its unique beauty.In addition, Buddha image from Srivijaya, Sukhothai and U-Thong era are kept in the temple.According to its location, the temple ground is the place where the pre-historic community was once settled. Many evidences such as religious buildings, ancient town, bronze statues, city wall, votive tablets of Srivijaya style, painting of Buddha, and pre-historic paintings in Buddhist Century 15-17 were found on the cliff. Tourists from the neighbouring countries like to visit the temple and pay respect to the inclining Buddha image.The temple is like the landmark of Yala province.
