Ban Chiang National museum, also known as Ban Chiang Archaeological Site, is located in Nong Han district of Udon Thani province. The site became a UNESCO World Heritage Site in December 1992.The museum has two parts to it. The first part is for antiques. Here you find anything associated with the ancient Culture of Ban Chiang. You can see ancient tools, household items, artifacts, and pottery items, many of which are over 4,000 years old. All artifacts are showcased very beautifully so that visitors can get as much information as possible about the ancient culture.The second part of the museum is an open-air one and it is in the compound of Wat Po Si Nai. Here you can see the archaeological excavation sites and these sites will give you an idea how the artifacts were buried with the dead.Ban Chiang National Museum is famous world over because the ancient community of Ban Chiang was the precursor to all other pre-historic civilizations of the world. The pottery found in Ban Chiang Archaeological Site is believed to the oldest in the world.Ban Chiang National Museum is open from Wednesday through Sunday from 9.00 a.m. until 4.00 p.m. You will have to pay an entry fee of 20 Baht to see the piece of History. You will find many stalls around the Ban Chiang Archaeological Site selling fake and genuine pottery. Refrain from buying any as they will be confiscated at the airport. In addition, it is illegal to export the genuine pottery and you can be imprisoned for this crime.
