Phra Buddha Saiyard Cave (Phra Thong Cave or Phu Pha Thong) is the cave within the temple ground of Wat Tham Phra Buddha Saiyard in Moo 5, Ban Khok Tat Thong, Kor Kiew subdistrict, Warich Bhume district, Sakon Nakhon province. It is 16 kilometers west of Warich Bhume district office. The direction to get to the temple is covered with lush forest and villagers’ orchards. Wat Tham Phra Buddha Saiyard is one of the attractions that proves human intelligence in cave modification and utilization. The stone shed near the cave went under an adaptation until it became the sermon hall where visitors stop for Wat Tham Phra Buddha Saiyard. There are a lot to see in that area, such as an enormous reclining Buddha image, Buddha images engraved on the cave’s stone wall, ancient Buddha images in several different postures, etc. One of the highlights includes a stone inscription saying ” in the 16th Buddhist Century, the 2nd month in the year of Dragon, this place served as the meeting venue of 31 monk groups” The large amount of archeological remains clearly indicates the prosperity of Wat Tham Phra Buddha Saiyard in the past. Stones in peculiar shapes can be found sporadically around the cave. After entering Phra Buddha Saiyard Cave, it is recommended you should take a leisure stroll around the temple ground and get some fresh air because the temple is situated on a hill and surrounded by shady trees.
