Lam Prathao Dam

Lam Prathao Dam

Lam Prathao Dam is located at Ban Lup Chang Phlai, Tambon Kao Ya Di, Amphoe Kaeng Khro. It is an earth fill dam blocking Lam Prathao. The dam consists of two parts: upper dam with the capacity of 44 million cubic meters, and lower dam with the capacity of 14 million cubic meters. Lampathao Dam is used to generate electricity for Kaeng Khro and Khon Sawan districts. It also irrigates the stored water to an agricultural area of Kaeng Khro and Mueang Chaiyaphum districts, as well as to Tat Don waterfall area and to the Chaiyaphum Provincial Waterworks Authority. The upper dam is a famous attraction site for Chaiyaphum and people from nearby provinces, because of the large Huai Lam Prathao, the gorgeous scenery and fresh water beach which is especially beautiful in the evening. The Lam Prathao reservoir is also a source for fish culture in cage. The fish can be cooked as deep fried Thai fish cake or so called Thotman Pla Krai. Lam Prathao Dam is a small earth fill dam on Dong Phayayen mountain range. There are two alternatives to go to the top. The first alternative is from Chiyaphum town up to Tat Ton Waterfall, heading to Ban Tha Mafaiwan when reaching the TatTon-Ban Tha Mafaiwan intersection. The other one is from Kaeng Khro district, passing Khok Kung sub-district to Ban Tha Mafaiwan. The latter is longer but is suitable for visitors from Khon Kaen province. By selecting either alternative, the scenery is magnificent. Like visiting the northern region, it is cold all year round, because it is located on the mountain. Major occupations of local people are related to agriculture such as longan, pineapple, rubber trees, cassava and other field crops along the hillsides.
