The Toong Samrith Monument

The Toong Samrith (Samrith field) is another historical site of Korat (or Nakorn Ratchasima) connected with the event that Grandma Mo (or Thao Suranari, Lady Mo) led the Korat people to fight with Wiang Chan army of Laos and secured victory. It is a broad field. The local people together built a spirit house of Ms.Boonleau and Korat heroes and heroines for paying respect to them. Nowadays, it is newly extended to be a broader building. History It is said that when grandmother Mo was the leader of the Korat people to fight with Prince Anuwong and secured the victory at Toong Samrith, there was another heroine who was courageous to fight at that time named Ms. Boonleau who sacrificed her own life to fire a cart containing dynamite on the 4th of March, 2369 B.E. The local people and Korat people pay respect to her not less than to the grandmother Mo, so they call her grandmother Leau. Interesting area The Monument is the spirit area of Ms. Boonleau together with the Korat heroes and heroines. It was built in Thai style with tetrahedron of which size are 5 meters wide and 5 meters long. The Samrith people together built in 2531 B.E. Inside, there is an average size of sculpture of Ms. Boonleau holding the torch which she used to fire the cart containing dynamite of Lao soldiers, and besides the sculpture of Ms. Boonleau lie a sculpture and painting of grandmother Mo. According to the legend, Each day, the local people and people from other areas will come to pay respect to the monument because they believe that the spirit of them are still here. Moreover, the local people also together hold the memorial event to recall the sacrifice of the heroes and heroine on the 4th March of every year.
