Thai National Theatre reflects the glory of Thai art. It is the important place established from the idea of King Vachiravudh (Rama VI) that Khon, Thai dance, and musical artists should perform their art to the audience. They therefore need a place or a theatre. Another important reason to establish Thai National Theatre is to exchange cultures with other countries which will strengthen the relationship.In 1932, when Fine Arts Department inherited the responsibilities about Khon, Thai performance, and Thai music from Bureau of the Royal House Hold, the conference hall of Fine Arts Department in National Museum was adapted to be the temporary Thai National Theatre. In 1961, Fine Arts Department received the budget for permanent Thai National Theatre construction. The construction completed in the fiscal year 1965.King Bhumibol Adulyadej and Queen Sirikit came to watch Thai dance performance in the opening ceremony on 23 December 1965. It was the first day of Thai National Theatre usage.From the first day until now, Thai National Theatre has been following the intention of King Vachiravudh’s idea. Thai artists have the area to show their art which descends Thai cultural heritage to nowadays. Moreover, here has been used as a place to welcome royal visitors from foreign countries and exchange culture and art with other countries. Thai National Theatre is suitable for visitors who would like to visit significant places in art branch and Thai culture. Performances are available for visitors. The news about the performances will be pronounced from Thai and foreign media. The Theatre provides complete facilities for Thai and foreign tourists. This is therefore one of interesting tourist attractions in Phra Nakorn Area.
