Phu Phra, Wat Sila-Ard

Phu Phra, Wat Sila-Ard

Phu Phra is a small mountain located at Ban Kanaisa, Tambon Na Sieo. On one of its cliff faces, there are bas-reliefs of Buddha images from the U Thong period. They date from the late 13th – late 14th century, around the early Ayutthaya period. Each April, a three-day fair is held at the temple, Wat Sila, to pay homage to the drawings. The bas-reliefs are currently sheltered by a roof. Amongst the depictions is a large Buddha image, looming over two metres high and 1.5 metres wide, named Phrachao-Ong Tue. Another Buddha image, a small 17-centimetres high sandstone statue, is in a similar seated posture. Seven other images are situated around a sandstone column.
