Wat Buraparam

This ancient Buddhist temple was built by Surin’s first town leader, Phraya Surin Phakdi Si Narong Changwang. It dates back to the Thon Buri or Rattanakorin era, over 200 years ago, as old as Surin town itself. It is home to the province’s iconic Buddha image, named Luang Pho Phra Chi, built during the same period. The temple also contains the museum of Luang Phu Dun, a famous senior monk who was once the provincial chief of the Buddhist Dhammayuth sect. The museum features a statue of Luang Phu Dun and his ashes to which visitors and the faithful can pay homage. The temple is located on Krung Si Nai Road in Tambon Nai Mueang, close to City Hall.
